Huron-Clinton Metroparks Mobile Learning Unit
The Metroparks Mobile Learning Center is a vital part of the Metroparks Community Outreach Interpretive program. The educational van and tent exhibit at the Dragon on the Lake Festival will feature animals that call our wetland habitats home. From frogs and turtles, to mammals and birds, visitors will have fun learning about some of these animals adaptations while exploring natural artifacts such as: pelts, feathers, skulls, antlers and more.
Lake Orion Lions Club
Project Kidsight is a FREE Vision Screening for children provided by Lake Orion Lions and other clubs around the country. We screen children from 6 months and older. We have a Plusoptix digital camera that quickly takes a picture of the child's eyes and immediately lets us know the results of the analysis.
A report is printed and indicates a Pass or Refer status along with all pertinent details. If a refer is indicated it is recommended that the child be seen by an eye care professional. This system, which is completely non-invasive, has an accuracy rating of 98%. Most eye conditions can be corrected with glasses.
If there is a financial concern the Lions Club will assist to get what is needed for the child.
Lake Orion Robotics Team
Check out demonstrations of several robots built by Lake Orion High School and Middle School teams. Visitors will have a chance to drive our robots and chat with local students to learn more about this fun activity.
Orion Township Public Library
Friday: 2pm
Storytime: Meet the library downtown during the annual Dragon on the Lake festival for a storytime for all ages! Children and their families are invited for stories, songs, dancing, and fun activities that promote the five staple early literacy practices: reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing!
Saturday
Book Bike: Staff members pedal our Book bike to parks, parades, community events and on bike trails in our township. We answer questions, talk about upcoming programs, and give away books, treats, and library swag; sometimes we even have crafts! Our Book bike has been a terrific opportunity to bring the Orion Township Public Library outside our walls to where our residents are. Look for us when you are out and stop by and say hello!
